Japan as a "medium power"

Abstract

This work researches the concept of “middle power”, their role in the international arena and idetifies main characteristics of “middle power”. The methodological basis of the work is a systematic approach and structural-functional analysis, which allows to highlight the most important aspects of the problem and describe the complex system, which a “middle power” is. Japan is seen as an example of such state in terms of status, behavior and strategy that it adheres to its foreign policy. In the era of the struggle of “great powers” in the international arena, Japan pursues the policy of “middle power”, not trying to gain as much influence in a particular region as they can still remaining a major player and maintaining its authority, which affects political, economic, technological and other areas of activity in the region.
