Memory of the Second World War as a tool of constructing modern Ukrainian national identity

The uniqueness of the Ukrainian case is that the memory of the Second World War has become a building material for creating a relevant image of the modern state in an armed conflict. At the narrative level, Ukraine is a victim of two totalitarian regimes in the past and a victim of Russian aggression now. In both cases, the Ukrainian people are fighters for their own freedom and independence. At the level of practice, the involvement of Ukrainian diplomats in the process of promoting the Ukrainian national narrative in the global discourse is important. The transformation of the national narrative about the Second World War in accordance with the European version is an important step in breaking with the totalitarian legacy of the USSR and changing the mentality of Ukraine in favor of Europe.
