Abstract

In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the linguistic status of phrasal verbs in the modern paradigm of the English language is conducted. It was found that phrasal verbs are characterized by idiomaticity, and their meaning is not derived from the meanings of the components of the phrasal verb; the units under analysis structurally may consist of two or less often three elements; characterized by significant variability of syntactic compatibility: there are phrasal verbs which are separated by an object, place an object after their postpositive, or have no object at all.
